Students are introduced to the skills necessary for singing music with accuracy and expression while interpreting the sound and symbols of music. Through the study of various genres and cultures, students will understand the music and concepts for other areas.
Music Exploratory and Art Exploratory are both quarter classes that are taught as a semester block. This semester will end with these two quarterly classes combining for a performance of music learned during the Music Exploratory quarter.
Chorus Seventh Grade
Semester or year long. No prerequisite.. Choral students will use correct vocal technique, musical expression studied in class to sing age appropriate vocal literature. Semester study will end with performance of musical selections for an audience of family and friends. Students may be asked to represent West Lake Middle in public performance.
Solo and a cappella ensemble oppor- tunities are available for student in seventh grade concert.
Concert Chorus Eighth Grade
Semester or year long. No prerequisite Students will apply the study of correct singing technique and vocal health to developmentally appropriate vocal literature. Students study traditional music notation, using this knowledge in the study of musical selections that are rehearsed and may be used in public performances. Students may be asked to represent West Lake Middle in concert off campus.
Solo and a cappella ensemble opportu- nities are also available to eighth grade students.
